Life at winter – 10 tips on how to preserve your health in the upcoming months
December has arrived again, the eagerly (or not so much) anticipated winter is here (everyone can decide, which option they want to choose). In 2020 this season is also different from the ones before. Deep inside all of us are already preparing for Christmas, still this preparation now is completely different from the last years. Either they can be with us or not, most probably we worry more about the health of our loved ones, everyone wants to spend their holidays as cozy as possible. But what can you do to preserve your health even this winter, in the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic? Here are 10 tips for your winter balance!
1. WASH YOUR HANDS REGULARLY
Although we already knew before how important it is, now in the period of the Covid-epidemic even those who had not been interested before are already aware of it. By regularly washing your hands you can mitigate the chance of catching infectious illnesses such as common cold or flu. Regularity, the use of soap and spending enough time on washing your hands are of outstanding importance.
2. EAT HEALTHY / CONSUME ENOUGH VEGETABLES AND FRUITS
By doing so, you decrease the chances of the development of chronic diseases such as heart disease, type-2-diabetes, high blood pressure and different types of cancer. The right amount of vitamine intake is of key importance to your organization.
3. GO OUTDOORS
In our digital age when most of us are unable to survive the day without their gadgets, the importance of time spent in the environment has become extremely high. According to the studies of the University of Exeter if you spend on average 17 minutes per day in the environment, you will more likely be happier and able to avoid untimely burnout.
4. MOVE YOUR BODY
I know from my own experience that now as cold weather has arrived and gyms have been closed, it is much more difficult to find the optimal place and amount of time for regular exercise. Still if during the week you manage to squeeze in 120 minutes altogether, you already have the battle won - and if you succeed in even more, then you have done more than the average for your health. Do the push-ups, don't stop the sit-ups or simply do the yoga - the only point is not to quit moving!
5. MEDITATE
Look for a calm place, put on your most comfortable clothes, sit down or lay your body down and make yourself comfortable! Get rid of all negative thoughts that make you worry or unhappy! For a few minutes you can also leave reality outside, can't you?
6. PAY ATTENTION TO APPROPRIATE SLEEP
Although the right amount of sleep is very important, research shows that 35% of adults do not sleep enough. Get up and go to bed on time and if you fall asleep at night, do not hesitate to lay your body down! You can find 8 tips for better sleep here.
7. GET ENOUGH BREAKFAST
Yes, quality breakfast is also indispensable for feeling good even in these cold winter days. It does matter how you start your day, because the success of the next 12-15 hours hugely depends on how you began. I have also already written a blog article about this to you, which you can read here.
8. KEEP YOUR HOME WARM
If you find it difficult to move, are over 65 or fighting a serious disease, keep your flat's temperature at at least 18°C. If you are not yet 65, healthy and live an active life, you can also stay below 18°C if it makes you feel good. The ideal temperature in your baby's room should vary between 16 and 20 °C!
9. DRESS YOURSELF WITH LAYERS
If you leave for running or even for a light winter walk it is important for you to always dress yourself with as many layers as possible! This way you do not only protect your joints, muscles from the cold, but by using more force for the same movement, you also make yourself stronger.
10. STAY POSITIVE
Less sunshine, getting dark earlier both contribute to you having to fight temporary bad mood or even winter depression. Why is it important to keep your positivity even in these tougher times? By doing so, you can expect favorable twists in your private and professional life and you will be able to set and implement goals more efficiently. I have collected all the information regarding positive thinking that can be important to you here.
