Your goal - your way
Do you often set goals and then during the implementation tend to encounter difficulties? Did you also promise yourself a few things in the beginning of the year and have you already failed in reaching your objectives? You are not alone. Did you know that from all the people setting goals only 8% reach them? Join me today and I will show you how you can become part of this 8%! Here are my 12 tips for beginner and advanced goal setters!
1. VISUALIZE WHAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO ACHIEVE!
I often hear phrases like "I would like to be happier! I would like to live healthier! I want more money!" from many of you. However these are very general goals on their own. Try to be a bit more specific and imagine exactly what you would like to achieve! Where would you like to be? How would it all look like? How would you feel in the meantime? Ask yourself: "How will I know that I have reached my goals? How will I know that I have lost my path leading to success?" Imagine what you would like and keep on focusing on this!
2. START TODAY!
If there's something you would like to achieve very much, do not wait until the date will be suitable! Because the 100% optimal day will never come. Start still today, do not be afraid of the potential failures, the point is to do it!
3. STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE AND CHANGE YOUR HABITS!
You might have also already heard one of my favourite sayings: "Success begins beyond the comfort zone." The same habits have never lead anyone to different results. Change your daily habits in small steps and the world around you will also change! Just 10 more pushups, just 10 newly learnt words in your favourite foreign language every day and a year later you will be miles ahead of your friends! But if you do not even start, then within 12 months' time you will still be standing exactly where you are today.
4. SET GOALS THAT MOTIVATE YOU!
Do you like working in teams, still you apply for jobs, which you have to perform on your own? Would you like to be an IT expert, still you are working as a teacher? Is your biggest dream to become a professional swimmer, but you tend to run around your flat every day? Set goals, which fit your personality, which are inspiring! If you do so, it will be much more easier for you to implement them!
5. BREAK DOWN YOUR BIG GOAL INTO SMALLER ONES! PUT TOGETHER AN ACTION PLAN!
It is a great thing that you have a big goal, but very often it will be difficult to implement because it is very big by itself! Break it down to smaller subgoals and try to reach them one by one! 5 smaller goals are not bad for a start. Monitor your progress week by week! If you do it well, sooner or later you will get to where you would like to. What is a well-set goal like? You can read more about this here!
6. BE PERSISTENT!
Do not forget: nobody's life has changed completely from one day to the other! You probably only see the end result, but beyond the biggest successes we can usually discover the tireless work of long years. You can never know when success finds you. The big acknowledgment might come following a rejection, as I have already written about also in the case of Bono and U2! It's never too late to become who you might have been.
7. BE FLEXIBLE!
You might not achieve the final success following the very same path that you originally planned to take. It can also happen that on your way you will have to utilize different methods and you will have different helpers than what/who you originally imagined. Plan for the possible changes and know that they all serve your best interests!
8. ASK FOR HELP!
Although your goal is originally a product of your own mind, it is not likely that you will be able to reach it completely on your own. Ask for help if you need it! Do not be afraid to rely on your family, your partner, friends, colleagues! If it moves you along, you can also join a supporting group! The world is full of potential supporters - just do not hesitate to reach out for their help! But always keep one thing in mind: your goals are yours only and no one can set them or reach them instead of you! Do not try to conform to others, but to yourself!
9. WRITE A LETTER TO YOURSELF!
If you have your goals, write them down! Start your day by noting down your goals on a small sheet of paper or into your computer! If you do so, they will surely not get forgotten and if in a few weeks' or months' time you grab your notes again, you will see exactly what you have managed to achieve!
10. PREPARE FOR SETBACKS!
Although many of you are prone to believe that things are running smoothly and you can implement all your plans in the matter of minutes, unfortunately in reality it does not work like this. In any minute you can find yourself in an unexpected situation, as a result of which you might have to stop on your way and look for a new direction. It is enough to only think about the coronavirus pandemic: it changed the lives of millions of people within a relatively short time... the best still managed to remain standing. Do not be afraid to change your direction on the way: you can still reach your final goal! Be prepared for setbacks as well - this way you will surely not get surprised!
11. STAY AWAY FROM NEGATIVITY!
As per the famous American writer, Earl Nightingale: "Our attitude toward life determines life's attitude towards us." Put aside negativity and think about what you would really like to achieve! Be rather the man of "half glass full", than that of "half glass empty"!
12. CELEBRATE YOUR SUCCESSES!
Did you manage to run 5 kms each on 5 days last week? Have you successfully passed your English language exam? Have you been accepted at the workplace, which you were longing for for years? If yes, congratulations to you! And congratulate yourself as well! Stop for a minute and celebrate your success! You can also invite your loved ones, the point is to take your time and get prepared for the challenges of the future! Just believe that it will be easier for you to reach your next goal if you slow down and celebrate what you were fighting for so long!
